[Yaesu] FT-51 ill - looking for advice, PLEASE

Howdy all,

My favorite dualbander handi seems to be "stuck" on the UHF side. It has 
gone totally deaf and refuses to TX, although pressing the PTT causes the 
display to appear to transmit ( that is, the red LED lights up and the 
S-meter moves upscale in proportion to the preset output power) . I can move 
throught the memories normally, and if a vhf frequency is stored in a UHF 
memory, it transmits FB (because it uses the VHF transmitter), but is deaf 
on RX.

The most telling symptom is that it shows a constant squelch open of one LCD 
and the green LED remains lit. Changing the squelch setting does not change 
this. Symptoms do not change regardless of whether the VHF side is turned 
off or on.

My instincts tell me it is not a hardware problem, so it seems some sort of 
parameter needs to be reset.

Has this happened to you? How'd you fix it?
