However, The ARRL product review specs prior to 2001
are at a 20khz spacing, which is pretty irrelevant to
contest like conditions. To see how those older rigs
really measure up, you need to look at the Sherwood
Engineering website (www.sherweng.com). You will see
that some of them measure up quite nicely.
Someone mentioned the Icom 720A. I ran one of those
from 1993-1997. Very good receiver. I didn't have
great antennas at that time, but also never really saw
the receiver overload under contest conditions. It
replaced a set of Kenwood 599 twins, which were also
excellent in the receive department.
