But if you factor in over all sales, customer satisfaction, all mode,
convenience, band coverage, size, power, just plain coolness--the IC-706
series wins hands down in my opinion.
Then in 2nd place comes the FT-817.
These radios don't have all the fancy features, rejection, studio audio, and
user adjustments that the others do, but they get the job done in fine
style, and can often go and do what none of the others can.

Subject: [Yaesu] Best HF rig-results
About 10 days ago I sent out inquiries to the Icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu
reflectors concerning the best HF rig those manufacturers had made. The
poll was non-scientific, and suffered from a small sample size, so it is
completely statistically invalid. Still, it is interesting to see what some
opinions were. Here are the results for each brand:
Icom
Tie between 781, 751A, 756PRO3.
Kenwood
1. TS850
2. TS950SDX
3. TS870 and TS520
Yaesu
1. FT1000D
2. FT920
3. FT1 and FT890
Here would be my personal choice for each, excluding the IC7800 and FTDX9000
(as the above results also did) since they haven't been out long enough to
evaluate:
Icom-toss up between 781 and 775. Depends on whether you value DSP or the
bandscope more
Kenwood-TS950SDX
Yaesu-FT1000MP
It is interesting to note that the only HF rig on eham.net's product reviews
with a 5.0 average rating and more than 10 reviews is the Icom 765.
