[Yaesu] Best Yaesu HF rig

John,
All I can say is that I have had an FT-840, an FT-990 and an FT-900CAT, and
I still have the 900. The 990 was great, but with some internal noise in
both the IF and audio, but it worked will with a Timewave DSP-59Y in the
SP-6 speaker box. Sold them both together, as the 900 did not like the
DSP-59Y (probably AGC incompatibility). The 900 is quieter internally than
the 990 and I love the digital bar metering that shows both power and SWR at
the same time, great tuning tool. The things I don't like about the 900 are
the small knobs and fan is on the noisy side, but T/R switching is totally
silent, unlike the 990. Hope this is of interest.
Darryl, KK5IB
