  Only for a minute.

I was a parts manager for an Onan distributorship back in the 70's, so I
have a good perspective on this. (I've shipped items around the world.)
I think it was both the USPS and UPS that coined that term. But, the point
is that shipping costs to Alaska, Hawaii, and our Teritories are higher than
shipping costs to the continental US, simply because it's harder to ship
things to them. To all the non-CONUS folks, things either went by ship if
you didn't need to get there fast, and by AIR if you DID want things to get
there fast. And the increased distance factors in the higher fuel costs for
shipping items to non-CONUS destinations.

It *used* to be that shipping costs from the East and Midwest to the
West Coast was higher, too, specifically because of the high cost and time
to cross the Rockies. This was before the advent of the Interstate Highway
system. That specific charge, fortunately, has gone by the wayside. :-)

Now, let's DROP this discussion. It has no purpose here on the Yaesu list.
Thank you.
