I do not know the FC-30 tuner, but one would expect the radio's software to
take care of the correct output level during auto tuning.  Connect a power
meter in your antenna cable and see what happens during tuning.

The output power can be reduced to 20W by switching the brown wire in the
supply cable to ground.  I use an external automatic tuner and switch to 20W
during tuning and back to 100W by flipping a switch.

I have a question that I'm hoping someone might have the answer to.  I have
the bolt on FC-30 auto-tuner.  Does the 897 decrease the output power
automagically when auto tuning?  I haven't seen anything that would indicate
that in the manual.  Presently, I manually drop the power before auto
tuning.

Anyone?
