[Yaesu] Inrad Filter

Hi Andy et al,

Like you, I installed a 400hz filter for the 8.2MHz IF on my field. I found 
that even though the same bandwidth filter seemed to have worked great on a 
kenwood back in my dark days, it did not seem to be any significant 
improvement over the 500hz OEM.

I subsequently bought a 250Hz 2nd IF and later a 250Hz 3rd IF and my results 
have been a dramatic improvement!!!

I think part of the problem is the larger number of stations that turn out 
for RTTY contests in relatively small sub-bands... forcing stations to 
increase their selectivity to the point where in RTTY contesting, 250hz 
filters seem the norm.

Not having anything better to do with the 400Hz filter, I desoldered the 
500Hz OEM and replaced it with the Inrad 400Hz -- again I'd say that on CW, 
the results are probably worth it, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd 
go straight to a pair of 250Hz filters.

One other mod. I'd highly recommend is a change out of the 2nd Receiver's 
OEM SSB filter for either a 2.1 or 2.8Khz filter (450Hz 2nd IF filter) -- It 
involves some work, and of course involves both desoldering the original 
small murata filter and wiring in the replacement. The increase in receiver 
selectivity is truly dramatic!!!!
