  It might be the socket itself. I do know that on the VX-5 radios, if you shut
it down with the power plug plugged in, it will not "wake up" unless the plug
is plugged in (and voltage). The microprocessor takes a snapshot of what
was going on when it shuts down, and it wants to wake up the same way.
Strange, but true. :-)
