[Yaesu] FT897 audio

    I just downloaded a copy of the Users Manual for the FT-897 from Yaesu. 
Take a look in the manual starting at page 52 "Menu Operation". You say you 
have your mic gain set at 20, but you don't say whether that's for FM or 
SSB. Anyway, the manual states for both FM and SSB the mic gain setting 
default is 50. If you haven't done so already, try setting the mic gains to 
the factory default.
