Hart:
I would very much recommend that you look at getting a Yaesu
FT-1000D for your application. It is still the best radio that Yaesu has
ever made except for the new FT-9000D. It has a solid 200 watts output
with an excellent compressor which really makes this radio "talk". I
have tried all of the other models such as the FT-920, FT-1000 Mark V
and the "field version" but did not like the display especially on the
Mark V and the "field". The dsp on none of those radios works very well
so you are better off to simply add the older "Clear Speech" speaker to
eliminate background noise, etc. I would look for a late production, non
molested FT-1000D radio and you will never look back or be sorry with
the choice. I had two of those rigs but sold one recently but will not
let go of my other 1000D as I use it all the time even though I do have
other rigs to use. You can contact me directly if you want more
information or help on this.
