Hi Hart,
Your question is a bit hard to answer without a price range,
priorities, new-vs-used, etc.
That said, I have a few comments:
1. In the world of HF/VHF/UHF transceivers, the TS-2000
is still a strong contender.

2. The new kid on the HF/VHF/UHF block is the IC-7000.
It's too early to know how good the Rx is, but they do brag
about the DSP, including notch.
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/5338
3. None of the HF/VHF/UHF rigs have reputations as
high-performance HF rigs, when compared to the best
of the HF-only and/or HF/VHF rigs. So your apparent
desire for UHF works somewhat at cross-purposes with
your aspirations as an HF net control.
Good luck and 73,
Ed, W6LOL

Subject: [Yaesu] Opinions on ft-847
> I'm thinking of buying the ft-847 rig. I will be using it for HF as a net
controller. My main concern is the notch filtering. Does it have a external
filter control? I need one that can zero in on beat/tone noise.
> I read on e.ham reviews that the 920 rig is a poor mans version of the
MK5. I was wondering if the 847 is too?
> I'm using a 706MK2G. The TX is OK, but the RX is crap when it comes to dsp
filtering and notch control capabilities.
> As you can tell I'm looking for a base rig with all the bands and also the
biggest bang for the buck. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.
