[Yaesu] VX 7R problems

Anyone else having there vx7 fail when plugged into the 12v cig lighter?
Mine has failed 2x and back at Yaesu for repair. Yaesu has no internal
fusing on this rig so smokes components. Tech support says they do not know
why but should take up to 16v input with no problem. I will never hook mine
to the car again, now have 3 batteries, but wondering if this radio has a
bug that Yaesu is not addressing.
