Hi Folks;

I'm just new on the list. So I guess I should do a brief introduction of sorts.
Well I'm 37, married to my lovely wife of course, although some think
its my cable modem, being into radio since I was young, my grandfather
VK3UT (dec) being a full-call and a radio/television technician, and
my uncle also being a radio/television technician as well.
(I did have aspirations of taking over my grandfathers call, but still
battling with the theory)

So I am primarily a listener, which I am happy with, although I am
working on getting my novice call in the new year, so hopefully I may
be able to talk to some of you all sometime.

I recently purchased (second-hand) a Yaesu FRG-8800 Comms Receiver,
and for reasons only known to themselves, Australian Government, or
Communications Authourity, maybe both, decided that comms receivers
coming into australia are to be limited to 2Mhz to 30Mhz in coverage,
thus I miss my two most favourite bands, LW & MW.

I am hoping somewhere, someone on this list will know the mod to
restore the boradcast and long wave bands on these receivers. I did
once see it a very long time ago. but have absolutely no idea where,
didnt take a lot of notice, since back then the 8800's were only
new'ish and I couldnt afford the 1300 dollar price tag for one. But
from what I can recall the mod is a real simple one, something like
cutting/adding a diode or resistor or the likes.

If anyone could help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks;
Stew (navarea10 at gmail.com)
