[Yaesu] FT-101B

Two questions: (a) has anyone discovered a cure for 160M RF
feedback? Only on that band - when the carrier or the mike
gain controls are advanced - the feedback starts and gets
worse the further the controls are advanced - this happens
with mike plugged in or not and with antenna or shielded
dummy load. (b) I don't know why these things are not
polarity-protected (most DC radios are, i.e.: boat radios)
anyhow - the FT101B got reverse polarity and emitted a bunch
of smoke - no drive, no receive audio - still seems to go to
plate idle current when mike button is pressed. Has anyone
out there dealt with a 101 that had been reverse polarized
on the 12V input and then had to find the trouble(s) and
repair?

Any help appreciated,
