The FT 1000D was a direct desendent of the original CAT, the FT 980. Had
the same amp
and basic receiver. Yaesu tried to correct all their mistakes but K7JA told
me the 980 still had the better RX once you worked thru all the phase noise.
I was using my original 980 in the 1988 CQ WW SSB on 10 running Europe and
Steve K4JPD (at his multi op station) broke in during a lull and said his
Kenwood TS 940 could not select out most of the stations calling and being
worked. Improvements in the 1000 and 1000D were a complete second VFO, a
bigger supply so the power transistors could do a full 200 watts out rather
than 100 to 150W (and 150W was a strain in the 980). Got rid of some the
phase noise problems.

The 1000MP seems to be based more on the Ft 990 which only lacked a built in
monitor and DVK to be a serious contest machine. Hopefully the new
transceiver with have the built in 232
built in so it can directly connect to the PC and associated software. And
maybe the key clicks problem the 1000MP series is famous for will be
history!

If the new transceiver is similar to the new Icom 7800 then its too rich for
my blood. Will stick with my two 980's and FT 920 for now.
