This radio is based on a commercial radio from Vertex Standard. The
non-USA version (European versions) seem to have a quite a bit more
features. It is possible that connector is for options that might not
be available for the USA or amateur radio models.

This is from a 2003 press release from SmarTrunk Systems. It
specifically references the VX-110 and VX-150 radios.

"SmarTrunk, Vertex reach manufacturing agreement

Vertex Standard and SmarTrunk Systems, Inc. announced an agreement for
SmarTrunk to manufacture and supply the ST-865VTP50A logic board for
the following Vertex Radios: VX-110 (non-USA only), VX-150 (non-USA
only), VX-210, VX-210A, VX-400, VX-600, VX-800, VX-900 and the VX-4000
mobile, was reached earlier this month.

Previously, SmarTrunk was providing the microprocessors with firmware
to Vertex who then assembled the boards and installed them into the
trunked radios. "SmarTrunk will now fulfill production of the logic
boards, handle customer service inquiries and even create new versions
of the board, with enhanced trunking features," said Tony Huber,
SmarTrunk applications engineer. SmarTrunk has also expanded customer
service support for the product to handle technical support issues.

When installed, the ST-865VTP50A logic board offers the OmniTM feature
set, including such benefits as Channel Banks (allows subscribers to
access different sites which use different frequencies), Multiple PTT
(Push-to-talk) Groups (allows subscribers to call different groups
simply by pressing the PTT button), Multiple Receiver Groups (enables
subscribers to receive both individual calls and calls placed to
several different groups), SmartScan (provides faster channel access in
a busy system) and many more features.

The ST-865VTP50A logic board also enables radio operators to use
expanded SmarTrunk II features such as Store and Forward Dialing, 10-
Number Memory Speed Dial (user programmable), Last Number Re-dial,
Automatic Mobile Acknowledge , Different Ringing Tones that distinguish
the type of call, Clear Channel Alerting , Priority Override Calls,
Conventional Operation, Two Trunking Modes: Radiotelephone and Dispatch
Operation and Five-digit Security Code for system operation programming.

A new version of the Vertex logic board, which will offer Caller ID and
a scrambler, is also expected be available for Beta testing in early
November."

Hope this helps.
