Hello All,
I saw an FT-890 for sale recently on the net, where the seller stated:
"Yeasu FT-890AT for sale. This radio has Mars mod completed,
pin diode mod to front end, and mod to antenna tuner that
allows the tuner to work on receive as well as transmit."
What is the "pin diode mod to front end"?
What is the "mod to antenna tuner that allows the tuner to work
on receive as well as transmit?

The FT-890 has the same RF sections as the FT-900 and the FT-900 also
does not have the tuner in line with the receiver. Suggest that if you
want additional filtering in front of the radio that you go to something
external. The internal tuners, in these radios, are quite broad and
shouldn't offer the receiver much protection. Also, the 890's and 900's
don't do well in a high RF environment. I suspect you have found that out.
I used my FT-900 with a next door neighbor, running a full gallon, and had
no problem, but had an old Johnson Matchbox ahead of the radio. It was OK
as long as we were on different bands.

Hi,
Have heard that FT-890 tuner is not inline on RCV. If this is correct,
is anyone aware of a simple way to cause the tuner to be inline at all
times? Will be operating in a place where I can use all the front-end
there is to be had.
tnx es 73,
