My "FBA-12" AA cell holder for FT-530 dual band HT came with an admonishment
not to use "rechargeable" batteries.

Why ?

--Is there a valid concern about the lower voltage of rechargeable Vs.
Alkaline cells
fooling the radio's low battery detection feature ?
--Is there a concern over higher current draw ??
--Is there a concern over charging the battery pack through the radio's top
mounted
power jack (too much current for the radio's charging circuits) ??

I use the FBA-12 as a backup, keeping it filled with fresh non-rechargeable
Alkaline cells. I've thought about using non-rechargeable lithium cells.
Although they are at least 3X the cost of Alkaline cells, lithium cells
typically have a 10 year+ shelf life and would work much better in very cold
weather.

What I would like to do is use NMHI rechargeable AA cells, but charge them
outside the battery holder. The FBA-12 battery holder does not have any
external contacts for charging anyway.
