Yep...at least with one other. A few years ago, in the middle of a RTTY
contest, the VFO knob/shaft got progressively tighter on my FT-767GX until
it locked up.
I was able to change freqs. via the up/down buttons on the mic.

I don't know about an "easy" fix. I took my radio to a repair shop and
the tech. had it fixed in less than an hour. He said it was the shaft
itself, and he just lubricated it. It worked flawlessly up to and including
the time I sold it a year ago.
Whether you want to fix it yourself or have a tech do it, is your
decision!!
