I have had a problem with my FT 1000D which does not seem amenable to a
solution. I sure would appreciate suggestions. The rig simply does not
properly key my Commander HF 2500 amplifier. It keys the amp for maybe
one dit and then no more. It does not seem to be the grid overload
protection kicking off because no reset is required. (I have had that
happen once or twice with other rigs and it requires cycling the
operate/standby switch to clear. The HF 2500 keys positive 12 volts to
ground and sinks 55 MA which seems well within the capacity of the FT
1000D relay.
The FT 1000D keys my Drake L4B properly. And the HF 2500 works fine
with the Icom 756 Pro and my new Elecraft K2/100. The FT 1000D is
grounded to the station bus as is the HF 2500. I am using RG58 coax for
the keying line. Perhaps the antenna rig to amp coax cable is letting
in RF and I will check that. However, beyond that I am stumped. I
should say that I have loaded the HF 2500 only up to 1 KW output to be a
little conservative. The antenna is a Mosley Pro 67B at 70 feet and
does not cause any problems with any of the other rigs.
Any suggestions as to where to look would be gratefully received.
Now - - a separate question. My rom is version 5.84. I know that is
not the latest version. Can anyone tell me what may have been changed
in later versions - - are the changes worth making - - and is a new rom
available?
Thanks
