[Yaesu] antenna recommendations

Well, for a decent antenna for 2 meters you need a
full quarter-wave which is about 19.5 inches long. 
Anything shorter than that will not work that well. 
Field experiments done by General Electric years ago
when the "rubber duck" type antennas first came out
showed that they average about 10 dB down from a
quarter wave.  Things have not gotten any better since
then!

That means if your transmitter is putting out 5 watts,
the effective radiated power is only about 500
milliwatts (0.5 watts).  The same thing happens on
receive as well.  The received signals are about 10 dB
down from what they would be with a full sized
quarter-wave.
