The VX-5R is a superb radio and good value now that the VX-7R is on the
market. The VX-7R's claim to fame is being waterproof and having a few
more/different features than the VX-5R. I bought my VX-5R just before the
VX-7R was announced, but I don't think that I would have easily spent the
extra cash.

The receiver of the VX-5R has got to be one of the most sensitive that I
have had in my shack.

The radio is almost my constant companion. My wife even allows it in bed,
as long as I use an earphone.

Subject: [Yaesu] VX150 and finals problem

| All set to buy a Yaesu VX150 based on its great
| reputation, and then got to reading some reviews on
| eham.net. More than one reviewer indicated that the
| finals had blown on their HT, usually more than once.
| Some suggested not using high power on it except in an
| emergency.
|
| is this a common problem? Has anyone else blown
| finals in this HT? Reading about this is now making
| me lean towards an Icom V8 instead. I like the size
| and features of the VX150, but wouldn't like Yaesu to
| have to fix it a few times. Also, wouldn't like
| having to run it at 2 watts when I am paying for 5
| watts of power.
|
|
| Any comments about this would be appreciated.
