I've used ADMS for by FT-8100

You get a cable with the software when you buy the software.

No problems at all here - ADMS works like a charm -- handles extended
frequencies and all the functions of the radio -- I don't know about the
1500 but the 8100 would be a S.O.B. to program without it.

That's pretty much the way it works unless you have a laptop you can use to
run the software. I keep a copy of the software loaded on an old DOS laptop
(a 386 system) that I use almost exclusively for programming my various
radios.
Many kinds of radio programming software has problems programming radios
from today's faster systems or problems running and accessing the com port
under 32-bit windows. I don't know if ADMS can interface with the radio
from a modern computer or not because I've never tried it from my desktop
systems -- the software runs fine on my Win98 (500MHz PIII) and WindowsXP
(1.8GHz P4) systems but I put the data file onto a floppy and use the 386
laptop to actually load the radio.
