Same with my FT-1000D; never been turned up and no complaints about my
signal. It's just a great radio! On SSB I always keep the ALC within the
save area; this is of major importance. It is not my target to obtain the
"worked all neighbours" award...

That's one of the things that make it such a great radio.  If you think this
may hurt the radio, just use the power output control on the front panel to
turn it down to whatever power level you are comfortable with.
