My FT-1000D has always put out 200 to 220 watts on all bands, right out of the box.  It has never been "turned up."  This is my 2nd FT-1000D and, as I recall, the 1st one also put out in excess of 200 watts on all bands.  That's one of the things that make it such a great radio.  If you think this may hurt the radio, just use the power output control on the front panel to turn it down to whatever power level you are comfortable with.
