Hello Clark,
I would suggest the Inrad 400 Hz chrystal filter.
In the Mark V I use 1000 and 400 Hz filters; for CW and digital modes.
For example 1000 Hz is excellent for contest use. Stations sometimes call
just next to the frequency and with 1000 Hz you may copy them without any
problem. 1000 Hz is very good for bandscanning too.
When I need more selectivity I use 400 Hz. And in really tough circumstances
I use the DSP APF (240, 120 of 60 Hz) in combination with the chrystal
filters.
PSK31 is very suitable for low power. But Pactor II and III are excellent
too. The advantage of PSK31 is that it is easy to use and low-cost; just a
soundcard and easy to obtain software.
