Generally, the digital modes are always in LSB.
That said, you could certainly use USB if you want. I think the "packet"
switch just selects some different audio filters and input jacks.
On my FT-1000D, I use the RTTY port and button for both packet and rtty
since my TNC has only one output for HF. It works just fine that way.
