Hi Terry,
I assume you tried the switch on the mic in both settings.
The in filter on some rigs do not work well with high impedance mics. Did
Yaesu specify a different model desk mic for the 840 then say the 847 (for
which this mic works very well).
If you're ready to throw out the mic, please send it my way (HiHi).... it's
actually a very good mic. The same basic mic is sold by Icom - just pinned
out for the Icom rigs. best source for wiring info is the 840 user manual,
which should have all the connector pinouts. You could also do a 'google'
search on the mic model number coupled with 'ft-840' - might yield a lot of
tech notes from other e-boards.
