A new rig in a properly grounded and engineered station should never have
such a problem.  One should not have to modify a new rig to prevent this
sort of occurrence.

I've never had any issues with my FT-847 and anyone who does have it should
really consider sending it back to the factory for repairs.  A defect like
this is generally a free repair (and Yaesu service is very good).
Additionally, fixing or moding a new radio like this is likely to void any
warranty on the rig so if a big problem comes up later, you are hosed.
