[Yaesu] FT1000D ROM Questions

Hello All:
Am new to this reflector.
Am sure this has been traversed before but could not locate the info in the archives.
I am the second owner of an FT1000D.
Like it a lot.
Have been trying to get it to work with software: Logger and Writelog, with limited 
success and similar problems with both programs.
using Yaesu FIF 232 C interface.
Rig readout: Yaesu 5.84 which I understand is early ROM.
Questions:
(1) Are my problems due to obsolete ROM?
(2) If so, how to acquire and install later version ROM?
