[Yaesu] ft-747

Our ARES group has a FT-747 hf rig and I am interested in trying to use it 
with some of the digital modes. I made an interface trying to use the 
microphone connector to key the radio and send the audio from the computer. 
I have checked the interface with a volt meter and seems to make closure 
when the program tranmits, however when connected to the radio I cannot get 
the radio to key. I am using pins 6 & 7. the rig works fine with the 
microphone and can jump the connections on the radio and the rig keys up. 
anyone seens this before? could the resistance be too high or low? any 
ideas on what to check or try
