[Yaesu] FT100D and voice keyer

Trying to use my FT100D with a MFJ 432 voicekeyer.  I
purchased the modular jack to 8 pin adaptor from Heil
audio to plug the voice keyer into the FT100D.  The
voice keyer itself works fine into the FT100D. IT keys
the rig and passes the audio into the rig very well. 

I then needed to find an 8 pin mic to plug into the
voice keyer.  After buying a couple intended for VHF
rigs which didn't work, because they didn't get the
right voltage, I borrowed a friend's FT847 mic.  It
runs into the voice keyer fine, and I can record
messages with it.  However, it will not key the FT100D
thru the voice keyer.  So, the voice keyer will key
the rig, the mic will work into the voice keyer to
record messages, but it will not key the rig.  

Has anyone else tried a voice keyer with the FT100D,
and if so, what kind of mic will work with it.  The
FT847 mic will also not work when directly connected
to the FT100D, bypassing the voice keyer.

Any help is appreciated.
