Most of us probably have a repair horror story we can tell whether it be
Yaesu or any other rig manufacturer. I did purchase an FT-840, several
actually over the years as they have a superb receiver on 160.
Anyway I had a power regulation problem with the third one I purchased
new. I tried to go through a troubleshooting process via phone and email
with Yaesu but they didn't seem to have a clue. I finally sent it back to
the factory because it was under warranty but it came back with the same
problem. Boy was I pissed!
I said to heck with the warranty, opened the rig up, trouble shooted it
and found the problem, a bad power regulator transistor. I ordered a new one
from RF Parts, it was a bear to replace because of my big hands but I did
fix it myself.
I've also fixed many a problem with my old FT-101EE but am still stumped
about the power output problem on 17 meters CW versus phone.
