Second try at the CW noise problem in my FT-900CAT.
As best as I can tell, the noise does not sound like ringing of a 250 Hz
filter. It sounds like regular white noise, atmospheric noise, same
noise as usual on the band but louder, as if the volume control has
been turned up. I have the same filter in my FT-990 and also a 500
Hz filter, neither one of them has the noise increase that the 250 Hz
filter has in the FT-900. Another part of the problem is that the noise
is not always there at all times, just turned the radio on, and there is
very little difference with the filter in and it out. Changed bands from
40 to 15 and very little noise today. Also in the past sometimes the
noise would start at at a low intensity and build up or increase. Just
checked again only band I hear the increase in noise is 40 meters.
Is this possibly "ringing", haven't heard any identifiable ringing since
I narrowed the bandwidth on my old MFJ digital filter down to about
50 Hz or below. Thanks for replies so far, which say filter may be
defective, and that 250 Hz filters ring.
