As you said, and quite properly, there is certainly room to disagree.
I own both the 1000D and 756 Pro. They both have their strong and
weak points. My experience with the Pro audio simply does not
comport with yours, but perhaps our setups are different.
I do wish to take slight issue, however, with the idea that an
outboard box is needed to run the Pro with an amplifier. It depends
on what sort of voltage and current the amp presents to the switching
line on the Pro. I have used the Pro with my Commander HF 2500 quite
successfully for some months now. The voltage and current of the
keying line of that amplifier is well within the capabilities of the
Pro and no accessory keying box is needed. On the other hand, I do
agree that with many, older amplifiers such as the Heath line and
older Alphas, an outboard keying accessory would be necessory. But
again, it depends. And it's only fair to point out that most of the
current radios are in the same boat. Most do not have the current and
voltage handling capacity of the rigs of ten or more years ago.
