When I get a round tuit, I am going to do the mod that "locks" the
subreceiver's tuning to the main tuning. there is a mod somewhere that lets
you push a button and then as you turn the main tuning up/down x KHz, the
subreceiver's tuning follows it exactly. You can set up any offset between
the two that you want before "locking" them with the button.

What does this do for you? In my case, I will feed the subreceiver's audio
to a 2 KHz wide waterfall display on the PC soundcard. Then set up a 1 khz
offset so that the main receiver's tuning is centered on the waterfall.
Instant panadaptor, 2 KHz wide (about what I want for RTTY or CW contesting
as a run station).

On another note - we can't claim the 1000D is best at EVERYTHING! I usually
use my 756PRO and FT-1000D for SO2R contesting on RTTY with some occasional
CW, but last night listened to a swap net on SSB with both radios and was
amazed at the difference in audio quality between my 756PRO and my FT-1000D
on the same freq, side-by side listening to the same guys. The PRO was
heads and shoulders above my 1000D in received audio quality! Amazing.
