[Yaesu] FT-8500 YSK?

Any input on this is appreciated:

I have an FT-8500.  Not having any luck finding the YSK-8500 separation 
kit, except possibly from Germany for almost as much as the rig cost.

Has anyone here ever managed to homebrew their own YSK-8500?  It seems to 
me the mic cable extension can be done with some plain six-wire phone 
cable.  Got plenty of cat-5 for that.  The trickier parts looks to be the 
connection between the faceplate and the rig.

Not sure how Yaesu did it from the factory as I have not ever seen the real 
YSK-8500.

Any comments?
