Stuart - thanks for the posting the "hiss test".  I tried it out and my 990 
is deathly quiet.  There is absolutely no noise or hiss with the audio turned 
to max.  I can tell some difference doing the filter test with some RF gain 
on - but it sounds more like a pitch change than a audio level change when 
switching from 2.4, 500 to 250 Hz.

I've been very happy with my 990 and there are times that I can really "hear" 
when the band is quiet.  I've never noticed any noise during those times 
either.  Keep it up, I'm certainly enjoying the conversation.
