   I just tested this, I hear NO noise or any sound, my FT-990 was
at Yaesu in Cal. just before I bought it from an OM, Yaesu must
know how to cure it. I was lucky, the OM had it serviced and
upgraded because he could no longer drive his power amplifier to
full power, I am glad I bought his external power supply,
that was the problem.

  (A pass transistor shorted out, he replaced it, but didn't notice 

the BASE wire going to that transistor was melted off of the socket,
so the 13.8 was drooping under max load)
