[Yaesu] FT-2600M Memory Loss

I've got the memory problem with the FT2600M and it has pretty much soured
me on Yaesu. Even my intermod prone Radio Shack will maintain its memory.

My current installation has the DC applied through a large relay whenever
the ignition is on. That is, a direct connection to the battery is made
when the ignition voltage is across the relay coil so the radio is off
(relay open) when the truck starter is engaged.

The memory still "goes away" usually after an hour spent in programming. Do
this several times for no reward and your enthusiasm is gone.

The transmitter is okay. The receiver is excellent. The memory functions
make the transceiver near worthless.

I am in the market for an "all band" rig like the IC-706 or FT-100.

My IC-22A, T-8a, and IC-746 operate as advertised. For what its worth, so
does my Swan350 and various Hallicrafters.

My FT2600M does not.

All manufacturers make lemons on occasion.

But I'll not reconsider Yaesu until there is no option left.

The memory losses are not random.

I have had the great joy of installing and maintaining aprox. 40
FT-2600's. And have found that it is virtually guaranteed that any low
voltage (less than10 volts) while the radio is on will clear all memories,
almost without fail. It usually is caused by a combination of poor
installation practices and transmitting or starting vehicle while the radio
is turned on. My most recent purchases do not seem to be less susceptible.

With a good install & adequate batteries/wireing, the problem does not show
up. It also helps to install a normally closed relay activated by the
starting circuit to eliminate the need to turn the radio off when starting
the vehicle.

Otherwise, the radio is very trouble free.
