For ham repeaters, you can try searching for them. They'll mostly only
be from 145 to 145.5, and from 146.6 to 147.5 MHz (VHF) and from 440
to 445 MHz (UHF). Set your scanner on those ranges, and you'll hear
everythint there is to hear. During the two daily commutes and perhaps
for evening nets are your best bets.
