Holiday Shopping Idea:
Purchase An ALINCODJ-G7T Handheld Add A New Band To Your Capabilities
ThroughMonday, November 26th, 2018, Ham Radio Outlet is offering speciallow pricing ($220) on the ALINCO DJ-G7T handheld 5 watt FM transceiver. A neatfeature of this rig is that it gives the owner the capability to operate in the23 cm Band (1240 – 1300 MHz) as well as 2 meters and 70 cm. As equipped, therig comes with a whip antenna, but tiny multi-element yagis are quite easy tobuild or purchase to enhance your signal.
Most hams donot have the capability of operating on the 23 cm band because not muchinexpensive equipment currently exists.
If youpurchase this rig, what can you do besides using it to work through repeatersand do some Simplex on 2 meters & 70 cm?
You candefinitely work 23 cm Simplex (calling frequency = 1294.5 MHz) and work througha couple of local mountaintop repeaters (1286.375 85.4 AF6HP Santiago Peak – METS & 1287.250 127.3 WD8CIK Mt. Wilson); even Satellite QSOs could bepossible.
BUT it caneasily be used to make contacts (QSOs) during the ARRL VHF/UHF Contests andSPRINT competitions. If you participate in VHF/UHF Contests to practice your emergencycomms skills & also enjoy contesting, use of the 23 cm band will certainlyenhance your score.
I have it ongood authority that Santa will be bringing me the ALINCO DJ-G7T, along with theprogramming cables, for Christmas. I definitely plan to use it during the ARRLJanuary 2019 VHF Contest!
FYI: When Iuse the similar 33cm (927.5 MHz) ALINCO FM handheld, I have made QSOs as faraway as Mt. Pinos and Orange Co. from the Santa Monica Mountains.
Note: This isNOT a commercial announcement!
