[Wswss] ARRL Southwestern Division e-Communicator

Like contests in general there will always be conflicts, seeing that
there are
only 52 weekends in a year, and even some of those sometimes are in
conjunction with a holiday.

Typically, the ARRL Southwestern Division Convention is held in September or
October; usually the latter when it's Arizona's turn. Yuma? Did no club in
the greater Phoenix area want to sponsor the convention? Well, at least
February in Yuma will be tolerable.

I guess there are now only three recurring venues of the convention, since
there hasn't been one in Riverside since 2005. We are fortunate in this
division that the event is at three or four venues, allowing the sponsoring
organization ample time for planning. Typically, we'd be meeting for two
years prior to the Riverside event, and in the meantime the respective
chairpersons would spend a lot of time securing vendors, inviting speakers,
promoting the convention and attending to all of the minute details that
are transparent to our guests.

It's a bit shocking, but not surprising, that some ARRL divisions no longer
have a convention.

After about a 10-year absence, we're looking forward to the convention
in Torrance this year.
