Team
I now have a modified Kenwood TK-981 for 903 MHz band FM work that I am
pleased with except that it is programmed for frequencies and PLs that work
great for amateur use in Southern California but not for Northern California
or the Sacramento Valley or the western Sierra areas e.g. in the Sacramento
and Stockton areas for example most if not all have a PL of 100 Hz
programmed for their FM simplex frequencies to discriminate against
commercial QRM and the accessible repeaters are on different frequency
splits and PLs than are the repeaters in Southern California. Bottom line is
that I need to have my Kenwood TK-981 reprogrammed to be useful for the Bay
Area, the Stockton and Sacramento areas and the western Sierras.
Does anyone know of anyone in Northern California who has the knowledge and
capability (software and programming cable) to reprogram the Kenwood TK-981?
Also, is there anyone located in the Bay Area of California or the Stockton
or Sacramento areas who can confirm for me 1.) what the PLs are for simplex
frequencies in these areas (so far I am told that I need a PL of 100 Hz for
simplex use in these areas for example as this has become the local de facto
standard for FM simplex use in these areas on 900 MHz amateur use) and 2.)
what are the 900 MHz repeater frequency splits and PLs and locations which
are currently accessible from the SF Bay Area, the Stockton and Sacramento
areas and the western slopes of the Sierras near Nevada City, Auburn and/or
Lake Tahoe? FYI, I have two QTHs, one in CM87 in Saratoga which is about 40
miles south of San Francisco and a summer QTH in CM99 at 5000 feet in the
Sierras. When I am not snowed out of my summer QTH I commute from the SF Bay
Area through Stockton and Sacramento and then head north and west to my
cabin which is approximately 40 miles due west of the north tip of Lake
Tahoe. These are the areas in which I will be on 900 MHz.
Any information would be very much appreciated. Thanks and 73, Ted, the 900
MHz rookie
