Lots of HPR folks who are also hams use 440 MHz because equipment is so
widely available. If your friend is not committed to 222, he might want
to check out http://www.bigredbee.com/index.htm Greg, K7RKT, is the
owner. He also makes a Beeline GPS version that was written up in the
August QST. I have no affiliation with them except as a very happy
customer!
One word of caution Pete - if you hang around with those HPR guys, you
