Hi Don,
Thanks for the email and the check in to my 1296Mhz net.
You should be getting more then 100w @ 1350 anode voltage with a good
tube.
This is what I get with a good 7289 tube:
Total plate current plus grid current with 10w drive.
1000volts @ 250ma =100watts out
1100 " " 350 " " 175 " "
1200 " " 375 " " 200 " "
1300 " " 385 " " 220 " "
1350 " " 400 " " 250 " "
What type of watt meter are you using? If it is a Bird with a 1000Mhz
slug they seem to read about 20% or so low at 1.3Mhz. I use in line
all the time a Sierra and try to keep the power at 150w to run the net.

After a complete rebuild, the N6CA amplifier is finally stable. I'm
showing 100 watts out and going to leave it alone for a while. My only
concern is the low efficiency. I'm pushing it hard, running 400 mA at
1350 volts under load. Allowing about 50 ma for grid current, that's 470
watts plate input. Chip says I should have about twice the output. But
everything seems optimum and it's running very happily. I'll have to
recheck all my measurements.
I have three Arizona stations listening for you. No reports yet today,
but it seem likely that they heard nothing from you last evening. W7GBI
and NU8I are in DM34 so your antenna heading for me should also work for
them. WA8ULG is up near Flagstaff, in DM43, so would need you to look a
bit further north. They have good stations (we chat every day on
1296.115) so they are possible check-ins for you when conditions are
better.

Don
