If you'll read closely, you'll see that the first HamIM message exchange
between both stations can be counted as the QSO as soon as the initial
replies with the proper exchanges are complete. Since this all happens
over a simplex FM link, there is nothing in the rules to preclude this
type of contact in a VHF contest.
1. The position broadcast from Station 1 is the "CQ".
2. Station 2's first HamIM is his/her answer to the CQ - and if you
include the proper contest exchange (i.e.: your grid square) it becomes
half of the required exchanges. You may also ask questions (i.e.: what
other bands, freqs, etc.)
3. Station 1 replies to the pop-up message with the proper exchange and
any other piece of information you may have asked for - just like you
would do if it was a CW or voice exchange.
4. Contact complete, and legal to log! At no time was this contact
assisted by anything resembling a DX Packet Cluster or the internet.
