[Wswss] fm simplex contesting?

I am very much in favor of having some kind of FM contest. I proposed one
last spring on the reflector and got a few (5?) responses in favor. One
thing that several people proposed was to have it as part of one of the
regular contest instead of a separate one. For example, a FM activity
period of a couple of hours during one of the ARRL contest.

There is a fairly successful FM contest in the midwest, Milwaukee I think.
There contest is two hours long with 30 minutes "scheduled" for 2, 6, 440
and 223.5. That's another possible format.

Neither idea had a power limit although, I think, the Milwaukee contest has
a handheld entry category.

My favorite idea was to basically combine the two ideas by having a two hour
FM activity period during the Jan ARRL contest.

I'll also volunteer to help in getting this up and running.

communication.

contesting opportunity for those hams on the FM repeaters that are looking
for 'something else'. They won't be impeded by by having to buy an all-mode
rig (yet!) to participate. The contest is 3-4 hours long, hopefully
encouraging a flurry of activity in a short span. Links to ARRL are given to
determine QTH gridsquare, and the simplex frequencies are published in the
contest announcement. They limit power to 5 watts, but maybe we could limit
it to typical mobile rig power, say somewhere between 25 - 50W. Like many
mentioned at David's BBQ in July, this could be talked up -where else- on
the FM repeaters.

March, April, or May? I'll volunteer to do whatever it takes if there is
club interest. Did I actually say that?
