Hi All,
Here's a link to a vhf/uhf FM Simplex contest sponsored by the Colorado QRP club
http://www.cqc.org/contests/summer05.htm
I thought it was a cool idea that might foster vhf/uhf contest participation amongst hams that haven't sampled contesting or even simplex communication.
Best of all the contest is Simple and Short.
The whole concept is to have fun and to provide an organized, initial contesting opportunity for those hams on the FM repeaters that are looking for 'something else'. They won't be impeded by by having to buy an all-mode rig (yet!) to participate. The contest is 3-4 hours long, hopefully encouraging a flurry of activity in a short span. Links to ARRL are given to determine QTH gridsquare, and the simplex frequencies are published in the contest announcement. They limit power to 5 watts, but maybe we could limit it to typical mobile rig power, say somewhere between 25 - 50W. Like many mentioned at David's BBQ in July, this could be talked up -where else- on the FM repeaters.
I know there is too much going on this year, but how about 2006, say March, April, or May? I'll volunteer to do whatever it takes if there is club interest. Did I actually say that?

Dan K6NKC
