If you want portable SSB, the available list is pretty short.  I'm not 
aware of anything else out there for portable SSB that will do satellite 
at all.  As I have no real interest in portable satellite (or weak 
signal terrestrial for that matter), I have not really looked at that 
market.  I do know that there are some people on the satellites using 
the 817.  I bought an 847 for weak signal terrestrial and satellite that 
will be installed in my truck, and I like it...
